Seattle area sports fans meet Arena Football League's new Washington Wolfpack

The Washington Wolfpack kicks off its inaugural season home-opener on May 5. The head coach and mascot, "Apollo," stop by KING 5 to hype up fans.

EVERETT, Wash. — Washington state's newest sports team is ready to see local fans in the stands to cheer them on. The Washington Wolfpack is a new team in the Arena Football League. This year marks the team's inaugural season.

The Wolfpack will kick off its home opener at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett.

The team picked up a loss on the road for its first game ever in what AFL described as a "chippy" matchup against Pacific Northwest rivals - the Oregon Blackbears. The Wolfpack lost 47-40.

Wolfpack head coach JR Wells said he is excited about this first season and said fans will see fast-paced football on a 50-yard playing field.

The team is giving an exclusive "Pup Pack" to the first 500 kids ages 13 and under who join the Kids Club at a home game this season.

You can also pre-register your Wolf Pup by clicking this link.

The Pup Pack includes a certificate, team logo water bottle, foam football, and a clear stadium bag to hold all your gear. On game day, you check out the concourse for three additional Kids Club activities to earn additional Kids Club exclusive stickers to add to your water bottle.

The Kids Club is part of the Washington Wolfpack's ongoing efforts to create a family-friendly and inclusive environment.

The team's mascot - "Apollo" - joined KING 5 on May 4. The mascot is named in honor of the famed character Carl Weathers, formerly a Whidbey Island resident,  played in the Rocky films.
