SB I-5 reopens in Ferndale after crash involving car hauler, van

As of 4 p.m., the backup had reached at least 1 mile.

FERNDALE, Wash. — Southbound I-5 has reopened at Portal Way in Ferndale after a crash involving a van and a car hauler Tuesday afternoon.

The crash was reported at 2:55 p.m. A car hauler was traveling too fast while getting on southbound I-5 from Portal Way, and it tipped over, sliding across the freeway, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding. A van crashed into the car hauler.

The driver of the van has non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the car hauler wasn't hurt, Harding said.

The crash was cleared just before 5:30 p.m.

As of 4 p.m., the backup had reached 1 mile plus, WSDOT said.

The fire department and Washington State Patrol responded, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
