Falling tree kills 1 woman in Issaquah

The King County Sheriff's Office said wind caused the large tree to fall on Saturday morning.

ISSAQUAH, Wash. — One woman was killed in Issaquah when a falling tree landed on top of the truck she was driving on Saturday morning, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO).

Around 11:22 a.m., a “very large tree” fell onto Issaquah Hobart Road South near Southeast May Valley Road due to wind, according to KCSO.

The falling tree landed on the roof of a brand-new truck that the woman, who was in her late 50s, was driving. The sheriff’s department said the woman was killed instantly.

The roadway was closed for several hours as deputies investigated. Eastside Fire and Rescue also responded to the incident.

A Wind Advisory is in effect through Sunday morning for the Admiralty Inlet area, San Juan Islands, North Coast, western Whatcom and Skagit counties. Wind gusts over 50 mph are expected. Wind gusts over 25 mph are likely for the Puget Sound region.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
