Whidbey Island cleaning up after windstorm

On the day after whipping winds, neighbors along West Beach Road had to clean up the damage the storm left behind.

OAK HARBOR, Wash. — On the day after whipping winds, people made their way to West Beach Road on Whidbey Island to see the damage the storm left behind.

For Marie Franco, Tuesday brought tense moments.

"With every wave that came over I was like oh no, oh no,” said Franco whose house is along the water and at the mercy of the weather.

"You never know with each wave," Franco said. "You just hope and pray that there is not a log coming over."

She wasn't on Whidbey Island on Tuesday.

“We were monitoring the storm remotely,” Franco said. “I pretty much did nothing but check my cameras.”

Her cameras caught waves crashing into her front window, shattering the glass.

"The inside pane is still intact, so we got pretty lucky with that one,” Franco said. "Our front yard was like a river. There was a current going through it."

That's why on Wednesday, Franco started early.

"We got here, rolled up our sleeves, got to work,” Franco said.

In Oak Harbor, some residents spent the day dealing with debris.

"Overall the damage inside the house is minimal. It is more the cosmetic and the mess we have to deal with in the yard,” Franco said.

She sees that as a good outcome after the kind of weather that came through on Tuesday.

"You are combining high tide with high winds, and it was coming in from the west so that is the perfect storm,” Franco said.
