BELLEVUE, Wash. — Parents at several western Washington clinics rung in the new year by welcoming the first babies of 2024.
Caleb was the first baby born at Overlake Medical Center in 2024. He was born less than an hour into the new year! He is the fourth child of parents MJ and Rom and the second of their kids to be born on a holiday. Caleb's nine-year-old brother was born on Christmas!
Baby girl Phoebe followed close behind Caleb. She was born just after 1:30 a.m. at the University of Washington Medical Center Northwest.
Then, at Providence Swedish, baby Amaiah was born at 2:15 a.m. Her parents, Makayla and Zachary, had to be flighted from Ellensburg to Seattle on Christmas Eve due to bad weather after Makayla's water broke earlier than expected.
“We got our own private Christmas light show seeing Seattle as we flew in at night,” Makayla said in a statement.
The hospital said Makayla and Amaiah are doing well.
According to UNICEF, more than 350,000 babies, on average, are born each year on New Year's Day.
