Alleged armed carjacking ends in crash, arrest in Seattle's South Park neighborhood

The driver of the stolen SUV was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. The driver of the semi suffered minor injuries.

SEATTLE — A juvenile was injured and arrested after he allegedly stole a car at gunpoint and later crashed into a semi-truck in Seattle's South Park neighborhood Friday evening. 

According to the King County Sheriff's Office, two suspects allegedly stole the vehicle from its owner in Burien around 4:45 p.m. The 21-year-old male driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot and was apprehended a short distance away. The juvenile male passenger transferred himself to the driver’s seat and fled at a high rate of speed.

The juvenile suspect then crashed into the semi-truck on Marginal Way Southwest and 2nd Avenue Southwest at around 6:40 p.m. 

According to the Seattle Fire Department, the suspect was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Witnesses reported that the stolen vehicle burst into flames with the juvenile still inside. The driver of the semi-truck, a 53-year-old man, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. 

The King County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft and crash.
