BREMERTON, Wash. — State Sen. Emily Randall, D-Bremerton, announced Thursday she is running for the state's 6th Congressional District.

Randall, the Senate Deputy Majority Leader, is running to fill Rep. Derek Kilmer's seat. Kilmer announced last week he was not seeking reelection. Public Lands Commissioner Hilary Franz launched her campaign for District 6 last week, dropping out of the race for governor.

"As a state senator, I carry your stories with me to Olympia stories about health care, housing, safety, affordability, and protecting our democracy. Now, I want to bring these stories to Congress," Randall said in an ad launching her campaign.

Randall emphasized her focus on affordable education and healthcare advocacy on her campaign website.

"My story is just like the stories of my neighbors," Randall said in a statement on her campaign website. "I’m running for Congress because this is the best way I can give back and get results for the community that has given me so much."

Kilmer endorsed Randall's campaign for a second state senate term, but he has endorsed Franz to fill his seat. Randall's most notable endorsement comes from Secretary of State Steve Hobbs.

The 6th Congressional District includes most of Tacoma, the Kitsap Pennisula and the Olympic Pennisula.

Randall has been serving the 26th Legislative District since 2019, winning a second term in 2022 against challenger Rep. Jesse Young, R-Gig Harbor, in what was the most expensive legislative race in the state.
