Bainbridge Island police recover body from water

Officials have released the identity of the man who was found on Friday afternoon.

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. — A body was found in the water near Rockaway Beach on Bainbridge Island on Friday afternoon, according to local police. 

Shortly after 2 p.m., police responded to the area for reports of a body off the coast of the island near Blakely Rock, the Bainbridge Island Police Department wrote in an Oct. 20 news release.

On Saturday, police identified the man was 53-year-old John W. Searle, who last resided in Pioneer Square in Seattle. 

Officials are continuing to investigate. Rockaway Beach is located on the southeast side of Bainbridge Island and south of the Bainbridge Island ferry route.
