RENTON, Wash. — At least seven people were injured after a driver crashed into Plum Delicious Family Restaurant in Renton Friday evening, according to the Renton Police Department (RPD). The driver was one of the people injured in the crash.
Patients are being transported to local hospitals, RPD said. The condition of those who were injured was not available.
The crash was reported at 3212 NE Sunset Blvd just after 5 p.m... Roads are closed near the scene of the crash. Drivers are asked to take alternate routes.
Among those injured were one of the employees of the restaurant and multiple people sitting in a booth where the car broke through the wall, according to Plum Delicious owner Gary Johnson.
Johnson was grilling at his home when he got the news that a car crashed into his business.
"It was shocking, but I pulled up the video real quick, and then it was more shocking when I saw that damage," Johnson said.
It's unclear what led the driver to crash into the restaurant. Renton police are still investigating.
Johnson said he never thought he'd be dealing with another setback like this after the COVID-19 pandemic. He's owned the restaurant for 22 years, and most of his customers are devoted locals. For now, Johnson is focused on getting up and running again. Fortunately, the building is stable, Johnson said.
"This is going to close me for at least three days, maybe more," he said.
