Northbound I-5 reopens in Federal Way after 3 crashes blocked all lanes

One car rolled over, a semi-truck collided with a truck pulling a trailer and a third collision involved two passenger cars.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — All lanes of northbound Interstate 5 have reopened in Federal Way after three crashes blocked the highway Thursday.

No injuries were reported.

The crashes happened near South 320th Street just after noon. One car rolled over, a second crash involved a semi-truck and a truck pulling a trailer and the third crash involved two cars.

"Debris and vehicles all over the place," Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The semi-truck and a small trailer lost some of their contents in the collision and debris was spread across all lanes, according to South King County Fire.

The crash cleared just after 2 p.m.

Drivers were asked to seek alternate routes and expect long delays. As of 1:40 p.m., the backup had reached 5 miles long and extended to Fife.
