84-year-old man in Chehalis found dead in possible homicide, police say

An 84-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head, according to police.

CHEHALIS, Wash. — Police in Chehalis are investigating the possible homicide of an elderly man found dead in April.

Officers with the Chehalis Police Department were called on April 11 just before 9 a.m. for reports of an unresponsive male. Emergency crews arrived and determined Royland Barnett, 84, was dead. 

The Lewis County Coroner's Officer determined Barnett died from a gunshot wound to the head that was not self-inflicted.

Investigators said they do not believe the shooting that killed Barnett was a random act, but there is no active threat to the Chehalis community.

No arrests have been made in the case, according to police. There has been no information released on possible suspects involved in the shooting.

Police asked anyone with information on the case to call detective Jeff Fithen or detective sergeant Warren Ayers at (360)-748-8605.
