5 men charged in connection to burglaries targeting Indian, Asian American residents

The men are suspected of burglarizing multiple homes in the Kirkland area.

KIRKLAND, Wash. — Five men are facing multiple felony charges in connection to a string of home invasion robberies targeting Indian American and South Asian American families in western Washington.

On Sunday, Kirkland police and other law enforcement agencies arrested the men, who are suspected of orchestrating at least 17 burglaries in the Kirkland area.

They were arrested at a Redmond home. Police recovered multiple stolen items, $17,000 in cash and designer handbags.

In February, detectives began investigating the increase of residential burglaries targeting members of the Indian American and South Asian communities. Surveillance video captured three of the suspects in a Kirkland neighborhood in late February.

Detectives learned that the suspects traveled between California and Washington in rental cars, swapping the licenses plates with stolen ones, and stayed in short-term rental properties to change locations, according to the Kirkland Police Department.

The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged each of the five men with multiple felonies on March 28. The residential burglaries occurred in King and Snohomish counties.

They remain in custody at the King County Jail. Arraignments for all five men are scheduled for April 10 at the King County Courthouse.
