2nd serious crash in a week along Fall City Road in Preston raises concerns

Three people were seriously hurt in a head-on crash on Fall City Road in Preston on Sunday.

PRESTON, Wash. — Three people were seriously hurt Sunday morning in what was the second major crash along Fall City Road in Preston.

The Snoqualmie Fire Department responded to Preston-Fall City Road and 328 Way SE around 11 a.m. Sunday. A truck and vehicle sustained extensive damage in the collision.

"I've lost count of the number of times those accidents have happened out here. It's just that common," said Matthew Paulsholmer, who's lived in the River View Park neighborhood off Preston-Fall City Road for nine years.

It was the second serious crash on Fall City Road in less than a week.

On Oct. 16, a 68-year-old man died when two vehicles collided head-on. The other driver was taken to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

It's unclear what caused the two most recent collisions.

"[Accidents] are pretty frequent. We're kind of getting used to it, which is kind of sad, when you get used to the fact that there's people dying on the highway outside your house," said Paulsholmer.

The road can be used to bypass the freeway, when trying to travel between areas like North Bend and Redmond. Paulsholmer said travel apps will often take drivers down the road to avoid traffic.

"It's a problem. You have a lot more traffic coming though here and the road is just not build to take it," said Paulsholmer.

The road has one lane in each directions and a narrow shoulder. The speed limit is 45 mph.

Paulsholmer hopes King County studies the road and looks to find ways to make it safer.

"Until they either lower the speed-limit, do more enforcement, or widen the highway, it's probably going to continue to happen," Paulsholmer said.
