Christmas cards pour in for Washington boy battling leukemia

A little boy battling cancer wanted to receive mail at the Ronald McDonald House in Seattle. After a social media post went viral, he has received thousands of cards, letters and gifts.

A 3-year-old cancer patient had one simple wish this Christmas, and thousands of people from near and far stepped up to make it happen.

Tavish McCosh is staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Seattle while he receives treatment for leukemia. Every day, he would visit his mailbox, hoping to see a Christmas card.

Then social media worked its magic. A touching photo on the family's Instagram account was shared with about 200 followers. But before long, it had spread worldwide. Tavish's wish had gone viral and in just two weeks, more than 25,000 letters and cards came pouring in. There are so many, the mailman makes 2 or 3 deliveries a day. The messages have come from as far away as France, Australia, and China.

"It is amazing," said Tavish's father, Charles. "I try to read him 25 to 50 cards a day. It's probably going to be years and years of Christmas cards for Tavish."

And it's not just cards. Well-wishes have also showered Tavish with gifts. He has received so many, his family plans to share the toys with other kids in need.

Tavish's parents hope their son's story raises awareness for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, and the important work the organization does to support seriously ill children and their families.

If you want to send Tavish a card or letter, you can send it to:
