Speed contributed to multi-truck crash on SB I-5 in Lacey that caused nightmare commute

Traffic is moving again on southbound I-5 in Lacey after a crash involving three semis and a box truck snarled traffic for hours Wednesday afternoon.

The crash involving three semi-trucks and a box truck that blocked southbound I-5 through Lacey for hours Wednesday was the result of drivers speeding too fast for the wet conditions.

The roadway was shut down at milepost 109 near Martin Way East around 2:45 p.m. due to the crash. The Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) opened the interstate just before 8:30 p.m.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Johnna Batiste originally reported the crash resulted in serious injuries, but that was later downgraded. There were no life-threatening or serious injuries in the crash.
