The Seattle Seahawks announced Wednesday the team has signed wide receiver Tyler Lockett to a multi-year contract extension.

The contract extension is for three years and has a base value of $31.8 million, a max value of $37.8 million and $20 million in guaranteed money, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Extending Lockett before the season was a priority for the Seahawks, and they were able to lock him in 12 days before the season opener.

Lockett, 25, is an elite return man who had 45 receptions for 555 yards and two touchdowns last season. With both Paul Richardson and Jimmy Graham no longer with the team, Lockett is expected to have a big role in the offense next season.

Lockett’s guaranteed money certainly dims the Seahawks’ chances of signing free safety Earl Thomas to an extension. Thomas is still in the midst of his holdout, with neither side saying anything for the last few weeks.

Regardless, the Seahawks now have their kick returner and No. 2 receiver locked in for the next three years.
