Brother of former UW football star Budda Baker killed in Ballard shooting

The King County Medical Examiner confirms that Robert Baker, 29, died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

The brother of University of Washington and Arizona Cardinals football star Budda Baker was killed early Sunday morning in a shooting in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood.

The King County Medical Examiner confirmed that 29-year-old Robert Baker died of a gunshot wound to the chest. Police say the shooting happened around 1:45 a.m. Sunday near Leary Avenue NW and 17th Avenue NW.

Officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived, but Baker died en route to the hospital.

There is no word on a motive or suspect.

Budda Baker posted a statement on Instagram and requested privacy for his family.

"On behalf of the Baker Family we want to thank everyone for their generous outpouring of love, support, and prayers during this extremely difficult time at the passing of our dearly beloved son, brother and husband, Robert Baker. We ask that you respect our family's privacy in this difficult time. - The Baker Family"
