Washington Athletics is a family affair for Lawyer (l), Amirah (m), and Claudine (r) Milloy.

SEATTLE — Mention the name Milloy around Montlake and it could be Mom, Dad or daughter.

Claudine Milloy was a University of Washington track star. Lawyer Milloy played football and baseball for the Huskies before a long career in the NFL. Now their daughter, Amirah, roams the outfield at Husky Softball Stadium.

Amirah admits she was initially hesitant to become a Dawg.

"I didn't necessarily wanna come here at first 'cuz it's a lotta pressure," she says.

She sees a mural of her dad in the weight room almost every day.

"I mean it definitely helps that I play a different sport. So I'm not constantly compared to either one of them."

Mom and dad weighed in for sure. But then they backed off.

"Obviously we were like purple and gold, purple and gold. But we just understood this is her journey. This is the first big decision of her life," Lawyer says.

Amirah says her three younger sisters helped her decide to go to school just across from the family home in Woodinville.

"I get to watch my sisters grow up. And I get to like go see them play and come home for family dinners sometimes. And I still get my freedom too."

Mom knows her eldest made the right call.

"It's really just an honor to have her here and get a chance to see her play and really enjoy herself," says Claudine.

And from whom does she get her athletic ability?

"He's gonna claim I get speed from him too. But I get my speed from her. And then she never played with a ball of any kind. So I definitely get my hand/eye coordination from him. So a little bit of both."

The top-ranked Husky Softball team lost their first game against the Arizona Wildcats in the College World Series, but they're not out yet. Their next game in the series is Saturday, June 1st at 9:00 AM against University of Minnesota.
