Strong winds blast Western Washington

Sunday turned blustery with unusually cold temperatures, despite sunny skies across Puget Sound. Some areas saw record cold overnight, with temperatures dipping into the 20s. Check the latest forecast for your neighborhood.

The westbound lanes of the I-90 floating bridge closed for nearly four hours Sunday afternoon due to high winds and waves. This is the first time a direction of the floating bridge has closed due to weather, based on new WSDOT guidelines. The westbound lanes of the bridge reopened just after 6:30 p.m.

On Seattle's Capitol Hill, high winds ripped scaffolding away from a construction project at 12th and John. Seattle Police & Fire blocked streets while construction crews were called to the scene:

Earlier in the day, lowland snow blanketed parts of Western Washington. While temperatures will continue to drop, the chances of more lowland snow are lingering as the air dries out.
