Seahawk Kam Chancellor intends to play in 2018 if medically cleared

Kam Chancellor's not ready to retire yet.

The reports of Seattle Seahawks Kam Chancellor’s retirement seem to have been exaggerated, for now.

Seattle’s strong safety is planning on playing the 2018 season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. However, Chancellor’s return depends on whether he is medically cleared by the Seahawks.

Chancellor’s 2017 season was cut short when he injured his neck Nov. 9 against the Cardinals, the same game in which cornerback Richard Sherman ruptured an Achilles.

Chancellor’s future has been up in the air these past few months. When asked about him playing in 2018, coach Pete Carroll claimed Chancellor would “have a hard time playing football again.” Chancellor added fuel to the speculation fire with a cryptic Instagram post on Jan. 26 that appeared to many to be an unofficial retirement announcement.

Despite Chancellor making it clear he wishes to remain a Seahawk in 2018, he still must pass Seattle’s medical examination to return. Since 2014, Chancellor has missed 18 games. The last time Chancellor played a full 16-game season was the Super Bowl championship year in 2013.
