A small plane crashed late Monday night 18 miles southwest of Bellingham.
One person was found dead at the site of the crash, according to South Whatcom Fire Authority. No other passengers are believed to have been on board.
The plane crashed near Fragrance Lake, up on Chuckanut Mountain.
The FAA confirmed a the Mooney M20K plane was traveling from Paine Field to Bellingham.
First reports of the missing plane came in around 8 p.m., according to Dave Ralston with SWFA. Ralston says fire crews from his department were dispatched to the crash site around 9:45 p.m.
