Inside Boss Mama's Kitchen food truck, serving up comfort food takes on new meaning when your community is hurting.

"What happened is tragic. You never want to see this happen, especially in your own backyard," said owner Jen Gustin.

Gustin lives down the street from where Deputy Daniel McCartney was killed in the line of duty. He passed away on January 8.

Ever since it happened, Gustin has been thinking about McCartney, the father of three young boys,

"Those three kids don't have a dad now, and his wife doesn't have a husband," she said.

Wanting to help, Jen decided to use her grill for a good deed.

"We went over there and we just said what can we do to make a difference, and everybody loves to eat, so that's why we decided to do it," said Gustin.

On the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Twitter page, they took note of Jen's gesture and soon more followed. Flowers and deepest sympathies were sent from the New York Yankees. Honor bands bearing Deputy McCartney's unit number, 484, were made by retired officers in California.

A local baker brought in cookies, and a woman in Tulalip made a candle for every patrol deputy.

Gustin is still determined to help. She is hosting a fundraiser with Half Lion Brewing Company on Friday. It starts at 2 p.m.

"For every beer, Half Lion sells, it is a dollar to the Daniel McCartney Memorial Fund, and two dollars for every meal that we sell," said Gustin.

Jason Nelson, CEO of Half Lion Brewing Company, along with co-owner Adam Shay say they want to do what they can to help.

"If something happened to me I would want the community to be able to take care of my family and show them love in their time of need," said Nelson. "It just pulled at our hearts."

"We want to make as much money as we can for this family," said Gustin.
