Some students are demanding Seattle Public Schools put anti-racism at the top of the agenda.

The NAACP Youth Coalition held a workshop at Garfield High School Monday morning before the Martin Luther King Jr. march in Seattle.

The teens say the district needs to address institutionalized racism, starting in the classroom.

"We've talked about the AP programs. We need to get students of color into those. That takes a teacher because sometimes a parent isn't able to be there and say, 'My kid is so smart,'" said one teen.

The coalition wants students of color involved in decision-making including a place on the school board. They also want the district to prioritize training all staff on racial issues.
