The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office named a person of interest Thursday in a 2017 quadruple homicide in Seabeck.

Detectives say the person of interest is Daniel Kelly Jr., 39. Officers have questioned Kelly, who they say was wearing clothing associated with the Bandidos motorcycle club at the time of the murders.

Lt. John Van Gesen said there are several other persons of interest, including some known associates of Kelly. He adds detectives believe some of the individuals interviewed in the case lied and may face criminal charges.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office released an extended version of the 911 call made by Hunter E. Schaap, 16, that led to the home where three victims were found. In the call, Schaap tells the dispatcher his family was dead and he, too, had been shot.

Christale Lynn Careaga, 37; Johnathon F. Higgins, 16; and Schaap were found murdered in their home near Lake Tahuyeh in January 2017.

Investigators found a burned out pickup truck with the body of John Careaga, 43, inside the following day.

The four victims were members of a blended family.

Hunter's mom, Carly Schaap, said every day the crime goes unsolved and the killer is free is crippling.

"Knowing he's driving by me on the streets and shopping at the same Costco I shop at. It's traumatizing," Schaap said.

"Every morning i shake my head and think it's another day to get through," she said.

Thursday, the lead investigators credited Hunter Schaap, saying the 911 call was imperative to the case.

"If he hadn't made the 911 call, we wouldn't have responded to the residence as quick as we did and get the evidence we did," said Detective Lissa Gundrum. "He did a fabulous job."

"It takes a sick motive to kill two 16-year-old boys their mother and their father, and take him away, burn his vehicle and burn the house. It takes a sick motive to do that," said VanGesen.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the murders to contact them.
