Cheers! N.Y. abuzz about Christmas keg tree

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — There are some things upstate New York does right. Beer is one of these things.

Behold! Genesee Brew House just unveiled this bad boy Thursday night: 400 empty kegs of pure Christmas bliss.

Now ask yourself this: Why would you buy a fake tree when you could build yourself a mini version from kegs?

For starters, you don’t have to hang hideous DIY childhood ornaments on a keg tree. That cotton ball mess you made in art class when you were 10 years old faintly resembles a newborn chicken in a hat. No amount of glitter will undo the decades worth of crushed childhood dreams your sad excuse for a snowman represents.

Here are a few more reasons a keg tree is better than the artificial alternative:

1. It doesn’t come in a stupid box. It comes in kegs, that are great to put beer back into.

2. There's not a confusing set of instructions to set it up. You just look at it and then order chicken wings.

3. Most artificial trees are made in China. Genesee’s keg tree is an all-American gem.

4. If one light goes out, the tree doesn’t go dark and turn into a total loss. It turns into an awesome keg tree with one less light.

5. Most trees are made of petroleum based plastics and main contain PVC. Beer is made of barley, water, hops and yeast, the four food groups.

6. A fake tree has an average lifespan of six years. Genesee Brewing has been around for 137 years (since 1878).
