Donald Trump: 'Maybe we should boycott Starbucks'

On the heels of his highly-rated Saturday Night Live appearance, Donald Trump held a campaign rally Monday evening at in Springfield, Ill., to court voters.

During the Nov. 9 event, Trump addressed Starbucks' controversial decision to leave Christmas off its holiday cups.

"I have one of the most successful Starbucks in Trump Tower," Trump told the crowd. "Maybe we should boycott Starbucks? I don't know. Seriously, I don't care. By the way, that's the end of that lease but who cares."

Trump added, "If I become president, we're all going to be saying Merry Christmas again, that I can tell you. That I can tell you. Unbelievable."

Trump echoed the sentiments of evangelists, including Josua Feurstein. Feutstein, of Arizona, posted a Facebook video that bemoaned the lack of a Christian message on the red cups with the traditional green logo.

"Do you realize that Starbucks wanted to take Christ and Christmas off of their brand-new cups?" Feuerstein asked. "That's why they're just plain red."

Rather than boycott, he told the barista his name was "Merry Christmas" to get that written on the cup. He's urging other customers to do the same and to post selfies with the cups on social media.

The coffee giant said in a statement that the red cup allows for customers to put their own drawings and messages on it.

"Starbucks has become a place of sanctuary during the holidays," said Jeffrey Fields, Starbucks vice president of design and content. "We're embracing the simplicity and the quietness of it. It's more open way to usher in the holiday."
